About Energy Factbook
Updated July 05, 2026
Energy Factbook answers one question well: what does energy actually cost you? Every number derives from official government data, primarily the U.S. Energy Information Administration, with the exact source, formula, and publication lag disclosed on every page.
What we do differently
- Official data only. No modeled estimates, no third-party feeds, no projections of unpublished months. If EIA hasn't published it, we say so instead of guessing.
- Radical methodology transparency. The methodology page names the exact series and formula behind every number on the site.
- A public revision log. When EIA revises history, we record it on the data updates page. Numbers never change silently.
- Genuinely fresh. The site rebuilds monthly from the source APIs after each EIA Electric Power Monthly release; the "Updated" date is a real refresh.
